“English in the Wild” Summer Camp Has Begun!

There are students standing in lines in the heat outside the classrooms building at a university in Changchun, NE China. They have all taken tests for class placement. While they wait to find out what class they will be in for the next two weeks, some are anxious, but all are eager to know what will happen next and curious about those loud noises coming from the rally room. As the teachers in the rally room practise cheers and chants for their teams, the excitement builds among the students.

Soon the students are told their class (team) names: Bears, Lions, Kangaroos, Elephants, Rhinos, Zebras and are given a name tag. These team names reflect the theme of this year’s English Essentials Summer Camp organized by Lifepegs, ie, English in the Wild.

The students next go to the rally room, where they find the teachers lined up cheering for them and showing them which way to go. As more students enter, the noise level rises, and the students join in the fun of cheering for each other. English in the Wild Summer camp has begun!

This job opportunity for out-of-school youth arose with the 10-day visit of the Indonesian Youth Team from West Java to play against eight… Continue reading

Goducate believes in encouraging the students at the literacy centers to read. However, it has not been easy to set up a library, or somewhere to store books securely. For one thing the centers are scattered over a wide area. For another, many centers are the living rooms of the locals into which the students squeeze for their lessons, while others are very basic structures consisting just of a roof… Continue reading
